Tournament History
The Collegiate Club Championships made its debut during the 2013-14 season when three collegiate coaches from club programs talked about the opportunity for a championship level event for club programs. The original eligibility criteria was simply to not be eligible to qualify for one of the following national championships: NJCAA, NAIA or NCAA. During the 2014-15 season, that eligibility criteria was expanded on by adding that teams certifying as a club program cannot provide any kind of financial incentives for the purpose of joining the bowling program (academic scholarships are allowable).
Invitation Process
Teams qualify for the Collegiate Club Championships based on their ranking in the collegebowling.bowl.com Power Rankings. The top 24 men’s teams and top 16 women’s teams, who are certified as official Club Programs, will qualify for the Collegiate Club Championships. If teams decline the invitation, the next eligible team in the Power Rankings will be invited.
Pool Play Process
The teams will be seeded into one of the pools based off the final power rankings.
See Pool Play tab for more information on how that is set up.
MEN’S FIELD
Each team will bowl a 4 game Baker match against the other teams in their pool, (along with a position round) with total pins deciding the winner of the match. The top two teams from each pool, based on a win-loss record, will get a first round bye in the double elimination bracket. In case of a tie in pool play, the team with the highest total pin fall will be the higher seed. If a tie still exists with total pin fall, the team that won the head to head match will be the higher seed. If a tie still exists with total pin fall, the team that had the higher four game baker set total will be the higher seed.
WOMEN’S FIELD
Each team will bowl two 4 game Baker matches against each team in their pool (along with a position round), with total pins deciding the winner of the match. The top two teams from each pool, based on a win-loss record, will get a first round bye in the double elimination bracket. In case of a tie in pool play, the team with the highest total pin fall will be the higher seed. Bracket Play Process
This will be a double elimination bracket to determine the tournament champion. In the winner’s bracket, matches will be a best 3 out of 5. For the contender’s bracket, matches will be a best 2 out of 3. The "if necessary" match will be 3 out of 5 and on the pair of the first final match. If teams are tied 2.5-2.5 or 1.5-1.5 (based on match), another game will be bowled. If a tie still exists, then total pin fall from that match will determine the winner. The seeding for the Bracket will be set before the competition starts based on how teams finish in Pool Play.
All-Tournament Team Process
At the completion of pool play, but prior to the start of the bracket match play, teams should receive a ballot. Upon elimination from the tournament, each team will select five players for the All-Tournament Team. Teams may not select anyone from their own team. Teams may use any criteria they wish to add their members. Votes will be weighted based on the round that the player receiving the vote is eliminated. Each round has a different weight. There will be five members of the All-Tournament Team, except in the case of a tie for the final spot. The player with the most votes from the winning team, regardless where they rank in overall voting, will be named to the All-Tournament Team and the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The player with the most votes from the 2nd and 3rd place teams, regardless where they rank in the overall voting, will be named to the All-Tournament Team. The next two highest vote getting players, regardless of where their teams placed, will be named to the All-Tournament Team.
